THE MOST MEMORABLE AD CAMPAIGNS OF 2018

Spring 2018 Ad Campaigns: ChloéŽ

The Dutch supermodel joins a gang of models in Chloé’s spring/summer 2018 ads. It is the debut campaign from Natacha Ramsay-Levi, named creative director of the fashion house in March. The Meisel-directed short film includes, Òseven scenes in 16mm, seven reels and 7 chapters with imagery resulted as freeze-frame moments taken from the film.

Shot in the golden light of day, the campaign video contains glimpses of women and a ridiculously cute vizsla puppy moving about on the steps of a city street. Their unscripted movements and flouncy dresses are paired with the motorcycle kick that Ramsay-Levi added to Chloé’s ultra-femme design DNA — see python booties and slim velvet suits. The camera acts as a curious passerby, documenting the models’ well-dressed interactions and zooming in on certain individuals.

PRADA PRESENT THEIR REAL LIFE COMIX SPRING/SUMMER 2018 CAMPAIGN

In 1941 when June Tarpé Mills first gave life to Miss. Fury, the first female superhero created by one of the first major female comic artists, she was forced to do so under the pseudonym Tarpé in order to conceal her gender and give Miss. Fury a chance of survival. A similar tale of resistance follows several other of the all-female ensemble who now, some seventy years later, feature on the clothing and backdrops of Prada’s Spring/ Summer 2018 Campaign, revealing an inspiring extension of the September show message, namely, women, by women.

It is a fitting re-appropriation of Mills’ own work and one she would doubtlessly approve of – where Miss Fury would once stick it to spies, terrorists and Nazis, not to mention her arch nemesis Countess Erica Von Kampf, here she not only underscores the power of the collection, but sends an allegorical message of strength and defiance too. We’re very into it. Shot by Willy Vanderperre, the campaign is of course, just as much about the other women whose work adorns the collection, including Brigid Elva, Joëlle Jones, Stellar Leuna, Giuliana Maldini, Natsume Ono, Emma Ríos, Trina Robbins and Fiona Staples. Just as with the show, there are some meta forces at work here, as Prada’s cast of models quite literally embody the identity bestowed upon them by this group of women and their creations, they themselves become authors of their own destiny, heroines of their own stories.

MAXIMALISM – THE NEW MINIMALISM!

It’s officially time to forget about the saying that less is more. It’s all about having fun by mixing and matching textures and prints.

Somehow we’ve all grown up understanding minimalism as a synonym of sophistication and elegance. It’s the classic “less is more” that many take as a golden rule. However, is it really still relevant? I mean, why do we still believe that sophistication can only be achieved through simple and classic outfits? Now fashion has become a tool to push TRsociety’s norms, so, in contrast with minimalism, there’s a trend that’s becoming a flag for the millennial generation, or at least that represents our particular mindset: maximalism.

It’s all about contrasting trends, but the final feel and look should be in harmony and pleasing to the eyes.

It’s all about having fun and going wild with your dressing. Start learning how to rock it and ace this trend by focusing mainly on your accessories, colours of your pieces and their texture.

Warning, this trend is for those who are deeply immersed in the fashion world and like to stand out from the rest.
